Set at Angel Beach High School in 1950s Florida, this comedy follows a group of students who decide to stage a Shakespeare festival. Their plan runs into opposition from Miss Balbricker, a teacher who considers the plays indecent, and from the Reverend Bubba Flavel, a preacher who brings his congregation to pressure the school into cancelling the production. The students also find themselves at odds with local politicians and with the Ku Klux Klan, whose members object to a Native American student being cast as Romeo. The film continues the story begun in Porky's, with the same circle of friends returning for a second round of schemes and confrontations.
Bob Clark directed and co-wrote the film with Alan Ormsby and Roger Swaybill, and produced it with Don Carmody. It followed Porky's, released two years earlier, and preceded A Christmas Story in the same year. Dan Monahan, Wyatt Knight, Mark Herrier, Roger Wilson, Cyril O'Reilly and Tony Ganios lead a credited cast of twenty-two. Made for seven million dollars, it took in fifty-five million worldwide, a strong return on its budget. On TMDB it holds 5.7 out of 10 from 374 votes.
