Exotica

Exotica is a Canadian drama set in and around a Toronto strip club of the same name, where the tax auditor Francis comes night after night to watch a dancer called Christina. His regular attendance unsettles Eric, the club's MC and Christina's former boyfriend, who still carries feelings for her while dealing with his own complicated ties to the club's owner. A pet-shop owner named Thomas becomes drawn into the lives of these characters, and the connections between them gradually come into focus. The film was written and directed by Atom Egoyan, who also produced it with Camelia Frieberg, and it stands early in his career, preceding The Sweet Hereafter, Ararat and Chloe, among others.

The cast includes Bruce Greenwood as Francis, Mia Kirshner as Christina, Don McKellar as Thomas, Sarah Polley as Tracey, Victor Garber as Harold and David Hemblen as Inspector. Made for about 2 million dollars, it took roughly 4 million dollars worldwide.

On IMDb it holds a rating of 7 out of 10 from more than twenty thousand votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.6 out of 10 from a much smaller pool of voters. A film critics' rating of 8.3 out of 10, drawn from 39 reviews, places it above both audience scores.
