Fandango

In 1971, five friends who have just finished their studies at the University of Texas decide to skip the graduation ceremony and take one last trip together before adult life begins. Their plans for a weekend across the Mexican border soon give way to a series of misadventures in the Texas desert. For some of the group, military service in Vietnam, marriage or a career is waiting, and the journey becomes a farewell to the freedom they are about to leave behind.

Fandango (1985) was the first feature directed by Kevin Reynolds, who also wrote the screenplay. Kevin Costner plays Gardner Barnes, the friend who pushes the others into the trip, alongside Judd Nelson, Sam Robards, Chuck Bush, Marvin J. McIntyre and Suzy Amis. Reynolds went on to direct The Beast of War, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Rapa Nui, Waterworld, One Eight Seven, The Count of Monte Cristo, Tristan & Isolde and Risen. A production of Warner Bros. Pictures and Amblin Entertainment, the film runs 91 minutes and had a budget of about 7 million dollars.
