Amityville: The Awakening

Belle Walker moves with her mother Joan, her younger sister, and her comatose twin brother James into a cheaper house so the family can afford James's medical care. Strange events follow, and when James unexpectedly recovers, Belle grows suspicious that her mother is withholding something about their new home. She comes to understand that the family has moved into the house on Long Island made notorious by a mass killing decades earlier.

The film is directed by Franck Khalfoun, who also wrote the screenplay, placing it third among the five features he has directed, between Maniac and Prey. Bella Thorne plays Belle, with Cameron Monaghan as James and Jennifer Jason Leigh as Joan; Thomas Mann, Jennifer Morrison and Kurtwood Smith appear in supporting roles. It is a Blumhouse, Dimension Films and Miramax production.

Released in 2017, the film runs 87 minutes and belongs to the long-running series of horror films built around the Amityville house. It took about 8 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 4.8 out of 10 from over 15,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 5.3 from roughly 1,100 votes, a slightly warmer audience response on the latter. A critics' rating of 3.9 out of 10 from 21 reviews places it below both audience scores, indicating broad dissatisfaction among reviewers and viewers alike.
