Until Death is an action crime thriller set in New Orleans. Anthony Stowe is a police lieutenant in the narcotics division whose life has come apart. Hooked on heroin and widely disliked, including by his wife Valerie, he has spent years trying to bring down his former partner Gabriel Callaghan, who has moved over to organized crime and built a position of power in the city's underworld. Stowe's obsession with Callaghan costs him the trust of those around him. When a confrontation with Callaghan's people leaves him shot and in a coma, he eventually wakes to a chance to change course, though his old partner still wants him dead.
Simon Fellows directed the film, his third feature after 7 Seconds and Second in Command. The screenplay is by Dan Harris and James Portolese, and the producers include Yaron Lemelbaum, James Portolese and Moshe Diamant. Jean-Claude Van Damme plays Stowe, with Selina Giles as Valerie, Stephen Rea as Callaghan, and William Ash, Stephen Lord and Gary Beadle in supporting roles. The production, mounted by Nu Image and Millennium Media among others, was made for about 10 million dollars.
On IMDb the film holds a rating of 5.7 from around 11,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6 out of 10 from roughly 244 votes, indicating a modest but persistent audience.
