The Out-of-Towners

George and Gwen Kellerman leave their small Ohio town for New York, where George is a leading candidate for a senior post at his company's headquarters. What should be a quick, hopeful trip turns into a day of mishaps: flights sent to the wrong airport, reservations that no longer exist, missed trains, strikes, strange strangers and lost luggage. The couple's dream visit to the big city becomes an ordeal that tests their patience and their marriage.

The comedy was directed by Arthur Hiller, the third of the seventeen films he directed in chronological order, following Love Story and preceding The Hospital. Neil Simon wrote the screenplay, and Paul Nathan produced it for Paramount and Jalem Productions. Jack Lemmon plays George and Sandy Dennis plays Gwen, with Sandy Baron, Anne Meara, Robert Nichols and Ann Prentiss among the twenty-three credited cast members.

Released in May 1970 and running 98 minutes, the film is a studio comedy about a provincial couple colliding with urban New York. On TMDB it holds a rating of 6.8 out of 10 from 147 votes.
