Catch That Kid
Short description
A twelve-year-old girl named Maddy shares a passion for climbing with her father. When a past injury leaves him paralyzed and in need of an expensive operation that the family cannot afford, Maddy decides to take action. She recruits two friends, a computer expert and a mechanical genius, to help her rob a bank. The group uses their specialized skills and go-karts to attempt the heist, specifically targeting a facility protected by a security system designed by Maddy's own mother.
Directed by Bart Freundlich, this was the second film of his career, following World Traveler. The movie stars Kristen Stewart, Corbin Bleu, Max Thieriot, Jennifer Beals, Sam Robards, and John Carroll Lynch. Produced by 20th Century Fox and other companies in the United States and Denmark, the film had a budget of 18 million USD and earned 17 million USD at the worldwide box office.
Audience reception was mixed, with a rating of 5.2/10 on IMDb based on 11,000 votes and 5.6/10 on TMDB from 338 votes. These scores are slightly higher than the rating from film critics, who gave the movie a 4.1/10 based on 84 reviews.
What's left behind the scenes
- Working titles were “Mission Without Permission” (under which title the film was released in the UK and some other countries, including on DVD in Russia) and “Catch That Girl”.
- During the filming of the scene where Austin and Max hide under the table while Mr. Hartmann enters the office with a girl and starts kissing, the baby cried so loudly that his mother had to sit under the table, out of camera view, constantly soothing the child.
