Levity

Manuel Jordan leaves prison after serving more than two decades for killing a young man during an attempted robbery. Although he is free, he is drawn back to the city where the crime took place, hoping to seek forgiveness from the family of the person he killed. A mysterious minister named Miles Evans offers him a place to stay and work in a community centre, and Jordan becomes involved with two women: Sofia, a young clubgoer whose life is going badly wrong, and Adele, the sister of his victim, who is raising a son of her own. He must decide whether to reveal who he is to Adele or keep his past hidden.

Levity was released in 2003 and runs 100 minutes. It is a crime drama set in the United States and produced with French involvement. Ed Solomon directed and wrote the screenplay, and produced alongside Richard N. Gladstein and Adam Merims. Billy Bob Thornton plays Jordan, with Morgan Freeman as Miles Evans, Holly Hunter as Adele Easley and Kirsten Dunst as Sofia Mellinger. Geoffrey Wigdor appears as Abner Easley, and the credited cast numbers 39.

On a budget of 8 million dollars, the film received modest attention. Its ratings sit at 6.3 out of 10 on IMDb, from around 7,000 votes, and 6.1 out of 10 on TMDB, from 124 votes. A critics' score of 5.6 out of 10, drawn from 91 reviews, places the critical response marginally below the audience ratings.
