Hot Enough for June is a British comedy thriller set during the Cold War. Nicholas Whistler, an out-of-work writer, is recruited because of his knowledge of Czech and sent to Prague, believing his new employer wants him for ordinary business. In reality he is being used as a courier for British intelligence, and almost everyone around him knows more about his mission than he does. Vlasta, the woman assigned to drive him around the city, is herself an agent, and his situation turns dangerous once he realizes what he has been drawn into and finds himself pursued behind the Iron Curtain.
Ralph Thomas directed the film, which was written by Lukas Heller and produced by Betty E. Box for The Rank Organisation. It followed a run of films by Thomas that includes Venetian Bird and Checkpoint, and it came before Some Girls Do. Dirk Bogarde leads the cast as Nicholas, with Sylva Koscina as Vlasta, Robert Morley as Col. Cunliffe, Leo McKern as Simoneva, and Roger Delgado and Derek Fowlds in supporting roles. The film runs 98 minutes.
Audience ratings are modest. On IMDb it holds 6.1 out of 10 from around a thousand votes, while on TMDB it sits at 5.7 out of 10 from a much smaller group of users. Both suggest a film watched mainly by admirers of the cast and of British Cold War comedy, rather than one that has kept a broad modern following.
