The Last Man on Earth

A worldwide plague has wiped out most of humanity and turned its victims into vampire-like creatures. Dr. Robert Morgan is the lone survivor, apparently immune to the disease. By day he hunts down the infected and disposes of their bodies; by night he barricades himself indoors while they gather outside, calling for him and craving his blood. His solitary routine is disrupted when he encounters another person who seems unaffected, raising the question of whether anyone else can still be trusted.

The film is a horror and science fiction drama directed by Ubaldo Ragona and Sidney Salkow, from a screenplay by Richard Matheson, William F. Leicester and Ragona, based on Matheson's own novel. Vincent Price leads the cast as Morgan, with Franca Bettoia, Emma Danieli, Giacomo Rossi Stuart, Umberto Raho and Christi Courtland in supporting roles. It was produced by Robert L. Lippert for American International Pictures, Associated Producers and Produzioni La Regina, and runs 87 minutes.

The film sits third in the chronological list of Salkow's directed features, after Faithful in My Fashion and Sitting Bull. Audiences have received it moderately: it holds a 6.7 rating on IMDb from around 24,000 votes and a 6.6 on TMDB from roughly 500 votes, while critics' reviews average 6.2 out of 10, placing the two broadly in line with each other.
