The Blood of Heroes

In a future shaped by war and scarcity, the one sport that has endured is a brutal contest played with weapons and a dog's skull, in which teams travel between settlements hoping to be noticed by the professional league. Sallow, who once competed at the highest level before being expelled over an affair, leads a struggling group of players. When an ambitious young peasant woman named Kidda joins them and proves unusually gifted, the team gets a final shot at reaching the league and facing its champion.

The Blood of Heroes is a 1989 science fiction action film directed and written by David Webb Peoples, produced by Charles Roven, and made in Australia and the United States. Rutger Hauer plays Sallow, with Joan Chen as Kidda, Vincent D'Onofrio as Young Gar, Delroy Lindo as Mbulu, Anna Katarina as Big Cimber and Hugh Keays-Byrne as Lord Vlle.
