Naomi Armitage and Ross Sylibus have taken on new identities and settled on Mars with their young daughter, Yoko, living as an ordinary family. Their quiet life ends when unrest breaks out among androids at an anti-matter plant on Earth. Armitage learns that the incident is a cover designed to destroy evidence of illegal research into a new generation of robots, and she travels to Earth to find those responsible. The investigation puts her up against a more personal threat than any she has faced before.
Released in 2002, Armitage: Dual Matrix is a 90-minute Japanese animated science fiction action thriller from director Katsuhito Akiyama, whose earlier credits include Macross: Do You Remember Love? (1984) and Sol Bianca (1990). The screenplay is by Hideki Kakinuma, Nahoko Hasegawa and Satoshi Wada, with Hiroe Tsukamoto, Hisao Fuke and Satoru Yoshida producing. Ryoka Yuzuki voices Naomi Armitage, Hikaru Hanada voices Ross Sylibus and Yuka Imai voices Yoko, joined by Kazuhiro Yamaji, Daiki Nakamura and Jouji Nakata.
Audience response to the film is moderate: it holds a rating of 6.3 out of 10 on IMDb from roughly 1,300 votes, and 6.4 out of 10 on TMDB from a much smaller pool of about 60 votes. The larger IMDb sample suggests a steady but limited following rather than a broad breakthrough.
