Tank is a 1984 American comedy about Zack Carey, a US Army command sergeant major nearing retirement who moves his family to a small town in Georgia. He brings along a restored Second World War Sherman tank that he keeps for parades. Zack quickly clashes with the local sheriff and his deputies, whose methods he finds corrupt and heavy-handed. The conflict sharpens when the sheriff targets Zack's son Billy with a false drug charge. With the usual channels closed to him, Zack takes matters into his own hands and puts the Sherman to use.
Marvin J. Chomsky directed the film, his second theatrical feature after Female Artillery in 1973, from a screenplay by Dan Gordon. Irwin Yablans produced it for Universal Pictures and Lorimar. James Garner plays Zack, with Shirley Jones as his wife LaDonna, C. Thomas Howell as Billy, Sandy Ward as General Hubik and Jenilee Harrison as Sarah, the woman whose mistreatment first brings Zack into conflict with the local police.
The film had a modest commercial run, taking in about 11 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.8 from roughly 5,300 votes, and on TMDB 5.7 from about 95 votes, indicating a limited but steady response from viewers.
