Mr. T is a private investigator and fixer operating out of a pool hall in South Central Los Angeles. When masked men keep robbing the illegal gambling operations run by Chalky Price and Pete Cockrell, the two hire him to put a stop to it. The situation turns more dangerous when one of the raiders is killed and turns out to be connected to a rival gangster, which makes it look as though someone is deliberately trying to set off a gang war. Mr. T has to work out who is behind the scheme while keeping the police at a distance and making sure he gets paid.
Ivan Dixon directed the film, working from a screenplay by John D. F. Black, with Joel Freeman producing for 20th Century Fox. Robert Hooks plays the title role, heading a cast that includes Paul Winfield, Ralph Waite, William Smithers, Paula Kelly and Gordon Jump. The film runs 99 minutes and mixes action, crime and thriller elements with its urban drama.
Released in November 1972, Trouble Man drew modest attention from audiences in later years: on IMDb it holds a 6.7 rating from around 1,800 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.3 from a much smaller group of 41 votes.
