Rurouni Kenshin Part III: The Legend Ends

Kenshin Himura has sworn never to kill again, but that vow is tested when Makoto Shishio sets out to overthrow the Meiji government. Shishio, scarred and bandaged, commands a deadly elite force and sails for Japan aboard an ironclad warship, aiming to plunge the country into chaos. Realizing he cannot defeat such an opponent with his current skills, Kenshin seeks out his former master to train for a final technique. The struggle between the two men will decide Japan's future.

This 2014 Japanese production was directed by Keishi Otomo, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Kiyomi Fujii. It belongs to Otomo's cycle of live-action adaptations of Nobuhiro Watsuki's manga, standing alongside the earlier two entries and followed years later by further films in the series. Takeru Satoh leads as Kenshin, with Emi Takei, Munetaka Aoki, Yu Aoi, Kaito Oyagi and Yosuke Eguchi among the main cast.

The film took about 42 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds a 7.5 rating from roughly 16,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 7.7 from a much smaller base of 578 votes, suggesting a modest but appreciative audience.
