Mata Nui, once the ruler of a universe, is torn from his own body and cast adrift through space, his spirit sealed inside the Mask of Life. When the mask lands on Bara Magna, a remote world covered in scrap metal and desert, it forms a new body for him. There he stumbles into the contests staged between villages, in which warriors called Glatorian fight to settle disputes. After winning a match, he is asked by the locals to take on their real enemies, the Skrall and the Bone Hunters. He joins a band of Glatorian and Agori villagers and sets out across unfamiliar lands.
Bionicle: The Legend Reborn is a 2009 animated science fiction adventure based on the LEGO Bionicle line, with a screenplay by Sean Catherine Derek and direction by Mark Baldo. It was the first feature Baldo directed, followed by Barbie: A Perfect Christmas and Rock Dog 2: Rock Around the Park. The voice cast includes Michael Dorn as Mata Nui, Jim Cummings as Ackar, Jeff Bennett, Dee Bradley Baker, Mark Famiglietti and David Leisure.
The film runs eighty minutes. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.2 from roughly 1,500 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 5.8 from 133 votes, a small sample that points to limited engagement rather than broad acclaim. Both figures suggest a modest reception among viewers, consistent with a direct-to-video release aimed mainly at followers of the toy line.
