Pardners

Pardners is a Western comedy built around two men from very different worlds. Slim Mosely grew up on the range, while Wade Kingsley was raised in wealth back East. Their fathers were once ranching partners, and after Wade's father is killed, Wade heads west hoping to take up where his father left off alongside Slim. Slim is not eager to take on the pampered newcomer, but Wade's money buys a prize cow and a new car that help Slim in his work as foreman. The Kingsley ranch is under pressure from a gang known as the masked raiders, and Wade tries to settle its mortgage out of his own pocket. What neither partner realizes is that the man leading the gang is the respected banker Dan Hollis, whose father killed theirs.

The film stars Dean Martin as both Slim Mosely Jr. and his father, and Jerry Lewis as both Wade Kingsley Jr. and his father. Lori Nelson, Jeff Morrow, Lon Chaney Jr. and Lee Van Cleef appear in support. Norman Taurog directed from a screenplay by Sidney Sheldon, with Paul Jones producing for Paramount and York Pictures Corporation. It was Taurog's ninth film as director in the chronological run covered here, following Jumping Jacks and preceding G.I. Blues.

Released in August 1956 and running 88 minutes, the film took in about 8 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds a 6.2 rating from roughly 1,900 votes; on TMDB it sits at 6.7 from a much smaller group of 65 voters.
