Short description
Andy Safian is a college administrator and Tracy teaches young children; the couple is happy and hoping to start a family. Their life in their New England town is unsettled by attacks on local girls, and while Andy gets drawn into the investigation, he meets Jed Hill, a surgeon who turns out to be a former schoolmate. The friendship that grows between the two men takes a decisive turn when Tracy is rushed to hospital and Jed operates on her. Afterward nothing between the spouses is as it was.
Harold Becker directed this 1993 thriller, which followed Sea of Love and came before City Hall in his filmography. Scott Frank and Aaron Sorkin wrote the screenplay, and the cast is led by Alec Baldwin as Jed, Nicole Kidman as Tracy and Bill Pullman as Andy, with Bebe Neuwirth, George C. Scott and Anne Bancroft in supporting roles. Made for about 20 million dollars, it took in roughly 46 million worldwide. - Initially, the film was planned to be shot at a college in South Hadley, Massachusetts, but the college president refused permission at the last moment due to the film's depiction of a serial assailant. Filming was moved to a college in Northampton, Massachusetts, whose administration agreed to allow filming only on the condition that the college's name would be changed accordingly in the film.
