Sex, Shame & Tears is a Mexican comedy-drama set in Mexico City, where three men and three women navigate desire, jealousy and commitment across two neighbouring apartments. Tomás arrives to stay with Carlos and Ana, while Miguel and Andrea are joined by María. The men settle in one flat and the women in the other, spying on each other from their windows. The presence of guests stirs up attraction and rejection, infidelity and reconciliation, as the six characters search for love amid their shifting loyalties.
Antonio Serrano directed and wrote the film, which was produced by Matthias Ehrenberg and Christian Valdelièvre and released in June 1999. It runs 110 minutes. The cast is led by Demián Bichir as Tomás, Susana Zabaleta as Ana, Jorge Salinas as Miguel, Cecilia Suárez as Andrea, Víctor Huggo Martin as Carlos and Mónica Dionne as María, with 32 credited performers in total.
Audience reactions are mildly positive rather than enthusiastic: on IMDb the film holds 6.5 out of 10 across roughly 3,300 votes, and on TMDB it sits at 6.6 out of 10 from about 155 votes. The small vote counts suggest a mainly domestic audience, which fits a film rooted in the intimate, talk-heavy dynamics of Mexico City couples.
