Allegro non troppo

Allegro non troppo is a 1976 Italian comic fantasy that mixes live action with animation. A producer stages a concert of animated shorts set to well-known classical pieces, convinced the idea is new even after being told an American named Disney already did something similar. The live-action framing follows the chaos around the performance: an orchestra of elderly women recruited for the occasion, a domineering conductor, and an animator the producer keeps confined. Between the musical segments, these figures clash in the concert hall.

The film was directed and produced by Bruno Bozzetto, who wrote the screenplay with Guido Manuli and Maurizio Nichetti. It belongs to the run of features Bozzetto made after his earlier animated works. Nichetti appears as the animator, alongside Néstor Garay as the orchestra master, Maurizio Micheli as the presenter, Mirella Falco, Osvaldo Salvi and Jolanda Cappi.

Running 85 minutes, the film has drawn a warm response from viewers over the decades, with an IMDb rating of 7.4 from around 3,500 votes and a TMDB rating of 7.1 from a smaller base of 122 votes. Both figures point to a modest but appreciative audience rather than a broad mainstream one, which fits a title built around a deliberately eccentric parody of an earlier animated concert film.
