Tom and Jerry: The Movie

Tom and Jerry: The Movie turns the long-running rivalry between a cat and a mouse into a full-length story. When their family moves out and leaves them behind in a house scheduled for demolition, Tom and Jerry set aside their usual chasing and look for somewhere to live. They meet a runaway girl, Robyn Starling, who is in the care of her aunt and needs help finding her missing father. Their efforts to assist her bring them up against the aunt and her associates, and the two end up captured and held in an animal pound, from which they plan an escape.

The film was directed and produced by Phil Roman, working from a screenplay by Dennis Marks. It came after a run of animated television specials he had directed, including several Peanuts holiday programmes and Race for Your Life, Charlie Brown. The voice cast includes Richard Kind as Tom, Dana Hill as Jerry, Anndi McAfee as Robyn, Tony Jay as Lickboot, Rip Taylor as Captain Kiddie and Henry Gibson as Applecheek.

Made on a budget of about four million dollars, the film took in roughly the same amount worldwide. Its reception has been mixed: on IMDb it holds 5.5 out of 10 from around 13,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.3 from a much smaller pool of 642. A critics' rating of 3.4 from 14 reviews places it well below the audience scores.
