The Shape of Things

Adam is a quiet university student in the Midwest who also works as a guard at a local art gallery. There he meets Evelyn, an art student whose intensity and openness pull him out of his shell. Before long they are a couple, and Adam begins to change — his looks, his manner, his confidence — under her influence. His closest friends, Jenny and Phillip, a married couple, are unsettled by the transformation and increasingly wary of Evelyn's hold on him, especially as their own relationship comes under strain.

The film is a modern story of love and emotional upheaval set on a college campus. Neil LaBute directed and wrote the screenplay, adapting his own stage play. Released in 2003, it followed his earlier features Nurse Betty (2000) and Possession (2002). The main cast comprises Paul Rudd as Adam, Rachel Weisz as Evelyn Ann Thompson, Gretchen Mol as Jenny and Frederick Weller as Phillip; Weisz was also among the producers. It runs 96 minutes and was made as a co-production between the United Kingdom, the United States and France.

It drew modest audiences and a mixed response. On IMDb, the film holds a rating of 6.3/10 from 137 reviews, while on TMDB it sits at 6.2/10 from 156 votes.
