Short description
Daniel, a speed-obsessed taxi driver in Marseille, is called on by his future father-in-law, a general who has forgotten to arrange transport for a visiting Japanese defence minister. The official is in France to observe French anti-terrorist methods and sign a major cooperation agreement. During a police demonstration, a yakuza gang seizes the minister, and Daniel and the inexperienced inspector Émilien set off for Paris to get him back.
Gérard Krawczyk directed the film, the second in a series of four Taxi films he made between 2000 and 2007, following L'été en pente douce and preceding Wasabi, Taxi 3 and Taxi 4. Luc Besson wrote the screenplay and produced with Laurent and Michèle Pétin. Samy Naceri and Frédéric Diefenthal return as Daniel and Émilien, with Marion Cotillard as Lilly, Emma Wiklund as the officer Petra, Bernard Farcy as Commissaire Gibert and Jean-Christophe Bouvet as General Bertineau. Around seventy cast and fifty-one crew members are credited.
Released in March 2000 and running eighty-two minutes, the action-comedy cost about 70 million dollars and took roughly 61 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.5 out of 10 from about 63,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.3 out of 10 from around 1,955 votes.
What's left behind the scenes
- A member of the camera crew, Alain Dutarte, died during the filming of the final scene.
