Across 110th Street

Three small-time criminals rob an apartment in Harlem and make off with $300,000 that belongs to the Italian mob, leaving several people dead in the process. Two New York City police officers, the veteran captain Frank Mattelli and lieutenant William Pope, are assigned to the case. The thieves are hunted from more than one direction: by the mafia, which wants its money back, and by the police. Mattelli, an experienced and compromised officer, finds himself caught between his duty and other loyalties as the pursuit closes in.

The film was directed by Barry Shear and written by Luther Davis. It followed Shear's earlier work on Night Gallery in 1969 and came before Rickles and Starsky & Hutch in 1975. Anthony Quinn plays Mattelli and Yaphet Kotto plays Pope, with Anthony Franciosa as the mob figure Nick D'Salvio, alongside Paul Benjamin, Richard Ward and Antonio Fargas among a credited cast of 62.

Released in December 1972 and running 102 minutes, the film draws on strong audience approval, with a rating of 7 out of 10 on IMDb from around 8,300 votes and 6.7 out of 10 on TMDB from a much smaller sample of 142 votes. A critics' rating of 7.1 out of 10 from 20 reviews places it close to the audience assessment on IMDb.
