Bus Stop
Short description
Bus Stop follows Bo Decker, a young Montana cowboy who travels to Phoenix for a rodeo with his older friend Virgil Blessing. In a cafe there, Bo becomes infatuated with Cherie, a singer who performs at the venue and dreams of making it in Hollywood. Bo decides he wants to marry her and take her home to Montana, while Cherie has no interest in that life. When she refuses him, he takes her onto a bus bound for Montana against her wishes. A forced stop caused by bad weather changes the situation between them.
Joshua Logan directed the film, which came after Picnic (1955) in his filmography and was followed by Sayonara (1957). George Axelrod wrote the screenplay, and Marilyn Monroe produced through her company alongside Buddy Adler. Monroe stars as Cherie, with Don Murray as Bo, Arthur O'Connell as Virgil, and Betty Field, Eileen Heckart and Robert Bray in supporting roles.
The film was released in August 1956 and runs 95 minutes. It earned about 7 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds a critics' rating of 7.3/10 from 15 reviews, while on TMDB it has a 6.1/10 from 254 votes, a gap that suggests critics responded to it more warmly than general audiences did.
