At a cinema on the Champs-Élysées in Paris, the film was shown without interruption from 1974 to 1985.
Thai authorities refused permission to film due to the erotic nature of the film, forcing its creators to resort to a trick. They presented the authorities with an initial version of the script that the filmmakers had no intention of shooting.
The film spawned numerous sequels and spin-offs, the most famous of which are the Italian films about Black Emmanuelle (one 'm' was removed from the heroine's name to avoid claims from the creators of Emmanuelle).
