A tornado strikes a nuclear power plant in a small Tennessee town, crippling the cooling system and leaving the reactor at risk of a meltdown. The plant's shift supervisor, Corrine Maguire, is on site when the storm hits, cut off with a reduced weekend crew, while firefighters and staff struggle to restart a backup pump before the fuel rods overheat. With the facility isolated from the outside world, more twisters close in on the town and the surrounding area. Corrine also has personal worries: her son Campbell is missing after the storm damages their home, and a neighbour, Deputy Jake Hannah, goes looking for him.
