Titta Di Girolamo has spent nearly ten years in a modest hotel room in Lugano, Switzerland, keeping to a rigid daily routine that appears to have no purpose. He is reserved and withdrawn, avoids questions about his past, and gives evasive answers whenever anyone asks what he does. Around him, the hotel staff and other guests sense that something about his life does not add up. The film follows this quiet, apparently aimless existence as the reasons behind it gradually come into view.
The Consequences of Love is an Italian drama and thriller directed and written by Paolo Sorrentino, released in 2004. It stands first in the chronological list of the director's feature films, ahead of Il Divo and The Great Beauty, and it brings together a recurring group of collaborators behind the camera, with Domenico Procacci, Francesca Cima and Nicola Giuliano producing. Toni Servillo plays the central role of Titta, and the cast also includes Olivia Magnani, Adriano Giannini, Antonio Ballerio, Gianna Paola Scaffidi and Nino D'Agata.
On IMDb the film holds a rating of 7.5 out of 10 from around 20,000 votes, and on TMDB it also sits at 7.5 out of 10, based on 923 votes. A critics' rating of 7 out of 10 from five reviews places it close to those audience scores. Its run time is 100 minutes.
