Night Passage

Grant MacLaine once worked as a troubleshooter for the railroad until he let an outlaw slip away and lost the job. He spends five years drifting through the West, getting by on his accordion, before his old employer offers him another chance. A gang led by Whitey Harbin has been robbing the trains that carry the workers' pay, and Grant is brought back to stop the holdups. What neither side counts on is that the gang's most dangerous gunman, the Utica Kid, is Grant's younger brother, leaving him caught between family and the job he has taken on.

Night Passage is a 1957 Western from Universal International Pictures, directed by James Neilson from a screenplay by Borden Chase and produced by Aaron Rosenberg. James Stewart plays Grant, with Audie Murphy as the Utica Kid, Dan Duryea as Whitey Harbin, Dianne Foster, Elaine Stewart and Brandon De Wilde among the credited cast of 35. It was Neilson's first feature as director, ahead of Bon Voyage! and several later films.
