3:10 to Yuma
Short description
Dan Evans is a struggling rancher with a wife and sons, and he needs money badly enough to take on a job nobody else wants. Ben Wade is an outlaw whose gang has just pulled off a robbery, and after he is captured in a small town, he has to be moved before his men can regroup and break him out. Dan agrees to help get Wade to the town where the train to Yuma prison stops, a train scheduled to depart at 3:10. The journey becomes a test of nerve as the two men wait for the train while Wade's gang closes in.
Delmer Daves directed this 1957 western, which sits between Jubal and The Badlanders in a run of films that also includes Broken Arrow, Demetrius and the Gladiators and The Hanging Tree. Glenn Ford plays Wade and Van Heflin plays Evans, with Felicia Farr, Leora Dana, Henry Jones and Richard Jaeckel in support. Halsted Welles wrote the screenplay, David Heilweil produced it, and Columbia Pictures released it at 92 minutes.
The film earned 2 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds a 7.6 rating from over 21,000 votes, while on TMDB it has a 7.3 from several hundred votes. A critics' rating of 7.5 from 31 reviews places it slightly above the audience score on TMDB and close to the IMDb figure, suggesting a western that has held up well with both reviewers and viewers.

- The role of Dan Evans was initially offered to Glenn Ford. He declined and suggested Ben Wade instead.
- After the film's release, the word "Yuma" entered Cuban slang. "Yumas" became the term for American tourists, and "La Yuma" became the term for the United States.
- By this time, most Westerns were already being filmed in color, but director Delmer Daves and cinematographer Charles Lawton Jr. preferred to shoot a black and white film. The cinematographer used red filters to make the landscape appear even more arid.
