Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy play a pair of friends entrusted with a deed to a valuable gold mine after a prospector dies. Their task is to find the man's daughter and hand the document over to her. In the western town of Brushwood Gulch, the saloon owner Mickey Finn and his wife, the singer Lola Marcel, learn about the inheritance and scheme to claim it for themselves, passing Lola off as the rightful heir. Stan and Ollie must work out what is happening and get the deed back to the young woman it belongs to, who has been kept out of sight as a kitchen maid.
The film was released in 1937 and runs sixty-four minutes. James W. Horne directed it, the fifth of the five features listed for him in chronological order, after The Hottentot, College, Our Wife and Bonnie Scotland. Laurel and Hardy wrote the screenplay with Arthur V. Jones, and Hal Roach and Stan Laurel produced. Rosina Lawrence plays Mary Roberts, James Finlayson plays Mickey Finn and Sharon Lynn plays Lola Marcel; Chill Wills appears uncredited with the Avalon Boys. Made by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Hal Roach Studios and Stan Laurel Productions, the film rates 7.6 out of 10 on IMDb from roughly 9,600 votes and 7.1 out of 10 on TMDB from around 230 votes, a solid audience standing for a comedy of its era.
