Short description
Nancy Vandergroot is a teacher and mother living an apparently ideal life with her husband and son in Holland, Michigan. This stability is disrupted when she and a colleague begin to suspect that a dark secret exists within their community. As they investigate, Nancy discovers that the appearances of those around her are deceptive, leading to a twisted turn of events that unravels her world.
The mystery thriller was directed by Mimi Cave, following her 2022 film Fresh. The screenplay was written by Andrew Sodroski, and the film was produced by Nicole Kidman, Peter Dealbert, and Per Saari. The cast features Nicole Kidman in the lead role, alongside Gael García Bernal, Matthew Macfadyen, and Jude Hill. She felt that Dave’s growing alienation, played by Gael García Bernal, would resonate better with that period. Moreover, she had strong personal impressions associated with the early 2000s, which added authenticity to her storytelling in the film.
