The Darkness
Short description
The Taylor family returns home to the United States after a holiday at the Grand Canyon, unaware that something supernatural has come back with them. Soon after they settle in, strange events begin inside the house, and the household turns hostile and frightening. Members of the family start behaving unnaturally, and an unseen presence appears to feed on their fears and private secrets, placing all of them in danger.
The Darkness is a 2016 American horror and thriller directed by Greg McLean, who wrote the screenplay with Shayne Armstrong and Shane Krause and produced alongside Jason Blum and Matt Kaplan. It was McLean's fourth feature, following Wolf Creek, Rogue and Wolf Creek 2. Kevin Bacon and Radha Mitchell play parents Peter and Bronny Taylor, with David Mazouz and Lucy Fry as their children Michael and Stephanie. Parker Mack and Matt Walsh also appear.
Made by Universal Pictures with Blumhouse Productions and Chapter One Films, the film had a budget of four million dollars and took about eleven million worldwide. Reception was weak across the board: a critics' rating of 3.2 out of 10 from 34 reviews sits below the audience scores on IMDb, 4.5 out of 10 from around 18,000 votes, and on TMDB, 4.8 out of 10 from roughly 656 votes.
