Class of Nuke 'Em High takes place at Tromaville High School, which sits dangerously close to the local nuclear power plant. After an incident at the plant that its management downplays, radioactive material contaminates the school grounds and the drugs circulating among the students. Pupils begin to change, both in behavior and appearance, and a gang of mutated bullies known as the Cretins terrorizes the school. Football star Warren Brant, exposed to radiation himself, briefly gains superhuman abilities and stands up to them, but when those powers fade, the surviving gang members look for payback. Chrissy Murphy is caught up in the chaos alongside him.
The film was released in December 1986 by Troma Entertainment, produced by Lloyd Kaufman on a budget of about two million dollars. Kaufman directed it with Richard W. Haines, working from a screenplay by Haines, Mark Rudnitsky and Kaufman. It followed Kaufman's The Toxic Avenger by roughly two years and came before The Toxic Avenger Part III: The Last Temptation of Toxie, The Toxic Avenger Part II, Tromeo & Juliet, Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger IV and Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead. The cast includes Janelle Brady, Gil Brenton, Robert Prichard, Pat Ryan, James Nugent Vernon and Brad Dunker, among 24 credited performers.
Audience scores place it at 5.6 out of 10 on IMDb from around 10,000 votes, and also 5.6 out of 10 on TMDB from about 201 votes. A critics' rating of 4.2 out of 10, drawn from five reviews, sits below those audience figures.
