Retroactive

Karen is a police psychologist who has left her job in Chicago after a hostage negotiation went badly wrong. Driving through Texas, she is stranded by a road accident and accepts a lift from a man named Frank, who is travelling with his wife Rayanne. Frank turns out to be a violent criminal, and when he kills Rayanne at a remote gas station, Karen flees and takes shelter in a government laboratory. There she becomes caught up in a time-travel experiment that sends her twenty minutes into the past, back to the car and the killing she has just witnessed. She uses each return to try to stop the murder, but Frank's behaviour grows more dangerous with every repetition.

Louis Morneau directed the film, his third feature after Final Judgement and Carnosaur 2, from a screenplay by Robert Strauss, Phillip Badger and Michael Hamilton-Wright. Jim Belushi plays Frank, with Kylie Travis as Karen, Shannon Whirry as Rayanne, Frank Whaley, Jesse Borrego and M. Emmet Walsh in supporting roles.

Released in February 1997, the film runs 91 minutes and blends crime and science fiction. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.2 from around 7,200 votes, and on TMDB it also scores 6.2, from roughly 214 votes. A critics' rating of 5 out of 10 from seven reviews places it slightly below those audience scores.
