James "Brick" Davis is a lawyer whose education was paid for by a gangster, though he has kept his distance from the criminal world that surrounds him. When someone close to him is shot dead by a notorious criminal, Davis turns his back on his legal practice and joins the federal Department of Justice, hoping to bring the killer to justice and to settle his ties to his past.
