Lenny

Lenny is a biographical drama about the American stand-up comedian Lenny Bruce, whose confrontational stage act in the nightclubs of the 1950s and 1960s made him a target of authorities who considered his material obscene. The film follows his rise from small, poorly paid club dates to national notoriety, his marriage to stripper Honey Bruce and their life on the road, and the legal trouble his language and subject matter brought him. Julian Barry wrote the screenplay, adapting his own stage play.

Bob Fosse directed, the third of the five features he made, after Sweet Charity and Cabaret and before All That Jazz and Star 80. Dustin Hoffman plays Bruce, with Valerie Perrine as Honey, Jan Miner as Sally Marr, Stanley Beck as Artie Silver, Frankie Man as the Baltimore Comic and Rashel Novikoff as Aunt Mema. Marvin Worth produced through Marvin Worth Productions. The film runs 112 minutes.
