MegaForce

MegaForce is an elite multinational military unit that takes on missions governments are unwilling to handle themselves. When a democratic desert nation comes under threat from a mercenary commander named Guerera, its representatives, Major Zara and General Byrne-White, travel to the unit's secret base in California to ask for help. The unit's commander, Ace Hunter, agrees to intervene, and MegaForce deploys to the Middle East, where it must operate without support from a local government reluctant to commit itself openly. The unit relies on advanced hardware, including high-tech vehicles and weapons, and its members are trained in a wide range of combat techniques.

Hal Needham directed the film, which sits between The Cannonball Run and Cannonball Run II in the run of films he directed, following Smokey and the Bandit, Hooper, The Villain, Smokey and the Bandit II and The Cannonball Run. Needham wrote the screenplay with James Whittaker and Albert S. Ruddy, who also produced. Barry Bostwick plays Ace Hunter, with Michael Beck, Persis Khambatta, Edward Mulhare, Henry Silva and George Furth in supporting roles, and 87 crew members credited. Made for a budget of 20 million USD, the film took in about 6 million USD worldwide, a fraction of its cost, and audiences have rated it poorly, at 3.7 out of 10 on IMDb from roughly 4,600 votes and 4 out of 10 on TMDB from 87 votes.
