Marie is a vampire living in Pittsburgh who preys on criminals rather than ordinary victims. When she kills Sal "The Shark" Macelli, a powerful mob boss, she fails to finish the job properly, and he returns as a vampire himself. With his new immortal abilities, Macelli and his crew become far more dangerous, and the city faces a threat unlike anything it has seen. Marie teams up with Joe Gennaro, an undercover police officer working against the same crime family, and the two develop a bond as they try to stop the mobster before his power spreads further.
John Landis directed the film, the fourteenth of the eighteen features he directed in chronological order, following Oscar and preceding Beverly Hills Cop III. Michael Wolk wrote the screenplay, and Leslie Belzberg and Lee Rich produced it for Warner Bros. Pictures. Anne Parillaud plays Marie, with Anthony LaPaglia as Joe Gennaro and Robert Loggia as Sallie Macelli. The cast also includes Chazz Palminteri, David Proval and Rocco Sisto, among sixty-nine credited performers.
Released on September 25, 1992, the film runs 112 minutes and blends horror with crime, action and comedy. It earned about 5 million dollars worldwide against a budget of 20 million. On TMDB it holds a 6.2/10 rating from 259 votes, while the critics' rating stands at 4.9/10 from 25 reviews, so audiences have rated it somewhat more favourably than critics did.
