Short description
Martin Daniels, an engineer, agrees to take in his young nephew Clifford while the boy's parents are away. Clifford is obsessed with visiting a nearby theme park that Martin helped design, and he will not let the matter drop. The two clash as the boy's demands and behavior upend Martin's plans, including his relationship with his fiancée, Sarah.
Paul Flaherty directed the film, his third feature after 18 Again! (1988) and Who's Harry Crumb? (1989). Jay Dee Rock and Steven Kampmann wrote the screenplay, and Larry Brezner and Pieter Jan Brugge produced it for Orion Pictures. Martin Short plays Clifford and Charles Grodin plays his uncle, with Mary Steenburgen as Sarah, Dabney Coleman as Gerald Ellis, Richard Kind as Julien Daniels and Jennifer Savidge as Theodora Daniels. The credited cast runs to 51 names.
The film opened in April 1994 and runs 89 minutes. Made for about 19 million dollars, it took roughly 7 million worldwide, a poor return on its budget. Reception has been modest across sources: it holds 5.6/10 on IMDb from around 9,400 votes and 5.1/10 on TMDB from 119 votes. A film critics' rating of 3.9/10 from 35 reviews sits below the audience scores on both sites.
