The Toxic Avenger Part II
Short description
Melvin Junko, the mild-mannered janitor transformed by toxic waste into Tromaville's monstrous protector, returns in this 1989 sequel from Troma Entertainment. With crime cleaned up in his home town, the Apocalypse Inc. corporation plots to take control, so its executives lure the hero to Tokyo by convincing him that his long-lost father is alive in Japan. While he searches for his father, the company moves to turn Tromaville into a dumping ground for hazardous waste, setting up a confrontation on two fronts.
Lloyd Kaufman directed alongside Michael Herz, continuing the series they began with The Toxic Avenger in 1984. Kaufman also co-wrote the screenplay with Gay Partington Terry, and both men produced. The film sits between Class of Nuke 'Em High and The Toxic Avenger Part III: The Last Temptation of Toxie in the directors' filmographies. Ron Fazio and John Altamura share the title role, with Phoebe Legere as Claire, Rick Collins as the Apocalypse Inc. chairman, and Rikiya Yasuoka and Tsutomu Sekine among the credited cast of 42.
Made for about 3 million dollars and running 95 minutes, the film received ratings of 5 out of 10 on IMDb from around 8,500 votes and 5.4 out of 10 on TMDB from roughly 200 votes, placing it in modest territory with both audiences.
