Woman on the Run

Frank Johnson is out walking his dog one night in San Francisco when he sees a gangland killing and gets a clear look at the man who did it. The police want him to testify before a grand jury, and the killer wants him silenced, but Frank chooses neither option and disappears on his own. Inspector Ferris, certain his witness is simply trying to dodge the consequences, trails him. Frank's wife Eleanor has a different explanation for the disappearance: she suspects her husband has finally walked out on their strained marriage. With the help of a newspaperman named Danny Leggett, she sets out to find him before the police or the gunman do, though she is not the only one tracking his movements.

Norman Foster directed and co-wrote the film with Alan Campbell; it followed his 1943 picture Journey into Fear and 1948's Rachel and the Stranger, and it was produced by Howard Welsch for Fidelity Pictures. Ann Sheridan leads as Eleanor, with Dennis O'Keefe as Leggett, Robert Keith as Ferris and Ross Elliott as the missing Frank. The film runs 77 minutes.

On IMDb it holds a 7.2 rating from around 5,600 votes, while the smaller TMDB sample gives it 6.8. A critics' rating of 7.3 from eight reviews places it close to the audience score on IMDb.
