The Concorde... Airport '79 follows a supersonic airliner on a Washington-to-Paris-to-Moscow route, flown by captains played by Alain Delon and George Kennedy. Among the passengers is a journalist, Maggie Whelan, who has come into possession of documents implicating a powerful industrialist, Kevin Harrison, in the manufacture of nuclear weapons. Harrison arranges for the flight to be brought down, and the crew must contend with attacks from the air and the possibility of the aircraft breaking apart over the Alps.
The film is the fourth entry in the Airport disaster series and was directed by David Lowell Rich, whose other credits include Madame X, Eye of the Cat and Telethon. Eric Roth wrote the screenplay, and Jennings Lang produced. Alongside Delon, Kennedy and Robert Wagner as Harrison, the cast includes Susan Blakely, Sylvia Kristel and David Warner, among 64 credited performers and 58 credited crew members.
Released in August 1979, the film had a budget of 14 million USD and returned 13 million USD worldwide, a shortfall against its cost. Audiences have rated it poorly, at 4.5 out of 10 on IMDb from around 7,600 votes and 4.7 out of 10 on TMDB from roughly 220 votes.
