Roar

Roar is an adventure film centred on a wildlife scientist named Hank who lives in a remote African estate surrounded by dozens of large cats. His wife Madeleine and their children travel from the United States to visit him, but a mix-up over their arrival leaves them approaching the house on their own while Hank is away meeting their flight. The family therefore comes face to face with the lions, tigers, leopards and other predators that share the property, and much of the film follows the chaotic encounters that follow. Noel Marshall directed and wrote the screenplay, with Tippi Hedren, Melanie Griffith, John Marshall and Jerry Marshall among the cast. It was produced by American Filmworks.

The film was released in 1981 and runs 95 minutes. It belongs to Marshall's small body of directorial work, and Hedren, his partner in the production, also appears in a leading role. The scale of the undertaking is reflected in its 17 million dollar budget, a substantial figure for its time, against a worldwide box office return of about 2 million dollars.
