Lassie

The Turner family leaves the city for a farm in rural Virginia, hoping to start over, but the move is hardest on teenage Matt, who misses his friends and feels out of place in his new surroundings. On the road the family comes across an abandoned collie, takes her in and names her Lassie. The dog becomes a member of the household and, as tensions with a neighbouring farming family escalate, proves her loyalty and usefulness to the Turners.

The film was directed by Daniel Petrie, the tenth of the features listed in his filmography, which had begun more than three decades earlier with A Raisin in the Sun. Matthew Jacobs, Gary Ross and Elizabeth Anderson wrote the screenplay, Lorne Michaels produced, and Tom Guiry plays Matt, with Helen Slater and Jon Tenney as his parents, Brittany Boyd as his young sister, and Frederic Forrest and Richard Farnsworth in supporting roles. Twenty-two cast members are credited.

Released in July 1994, the film runs 94 minutes and took about 10 million dollars worldwide. On TMDB it holds a rating of 6.1 out of 10 from 224 votes, which suggests a modest but not unfavourable response from those who have seen it.
