Short description
Using hidden cameras and never-before-seen footage, Earthlings chronicles the day-to-day practices of the largest industries in the world, all of which rely entirely on animals for profit.
What's left behind the scenes
- Joaquin Phoenix, who provides the voice-over, is a vegan and is actively involved in animal rights advocacy.
- In 1999, Sean Monson began working on a series of public service announcements about spaying and neutering pets. The scenes he filmed in animal shelters in the Los Angeles area shocked him so deeply that the project soon evolved into 'Earthlings.' It took another six years to complete the film due to the difficulty of obtaining footage from within these profitable industries.
- The French version was dubbed by Georges Laraque, a professional Canadian NHL hockey player. After watching the film, Laraque became a vegan and worked extensively with linguists prior to dubbing the movie.
