Short description

This documentary focuses on the 2002 coup d'état in Venezuela, during which President Hugo Chávez was forcibly removed from power. Two independent filmmakers, who were in the presidential palace to film a project about Chávez, captured the events as they unfolded. The film tracks the timeline of the uprising, including street battles, the actions of the conspirators, and the subsequent mobilization of citizens. It documents the violence and political tension that led to Chávez being deposed and his eventual return to office 48 hours later.

The film was directed by Kim Bartley and Donnacha O'Briain and produced by David Power. This project is the first of two films directed by Bartley, followed by Lemonade in 2026. A co-production involving Ireland, the Netherlands, and the Netherlands Antilles, the movie was supported by production companies such as the BBC, RTÉ, and Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland.

Since its release in 2003, the documentary has maintained a positive reception from viewers. On IMDb, it holds a rating of 8.2/10 based on 2,800 votes, while on TMDB, it has a rating of 7.7/10 from 59 votes.
