The Anderson Tapes

Duke Anderson leaves prison after serving ten years and moves into the upscale New York apartment of his former girlfriend, Ingrid. He quickly settles on a plan to rob the whole building and its wealthy residents in a single stroke, shipping the proceeds out in a moving van. To finance and staff the job he turns to organized crime figures and assembles a crew of ex-convicts, but he remains unaware that recording equipment is capturing his preparations, even though he is not the target of the surveillance.

Sidney Lumet directed the film, the sixth of the twenty-six features he made, following The Group and preceding Serpico. Frank Pierson wrote the screenplay, and Robert Weitman produced for Columbia Pictures. Sean Connery plays Duke, with Dyan Cannon as Ingrid, Martin Balsam as Haskins, Alan King as Pat Angelo and Christopher Walken as The Kid; the credited cast runs to forty-six names.

Made for about three million dollars, the film returned roughly five million worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.4 out of 10 from around 10,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.1 from 188 votes. A critics' score of 6.3 from twenty reviews places it close to the audience figures, suggesting a moderately received crime thriller rather than a runaway success.
