Uprising

Set in Poland starting in 1939, this historical drama follows the formation of the Jewish Fighting Organization within the Warsaw Ghetto. The story centers on Mordechaj Anielewicz and his companions who, after witnessing the brutality and systemic deportations carried out by Nazi forces, organize an armed resistance. Among the recruits is Tosia Altmann, a young woman whose appearance allows her to blend in with the occupiers. The conflict culminates in 1943 as the group attempts to fight back against the German military to prevent further atrocities.

The television movie was directed by Jon Avnet, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Paul Brickman. This project follows Avnet's previous work on films such as Red Corner and precedes his later direction of 88 Minutes. The ensemble cast features Leelee Sobieski, Hank Azaria, David Schwimmer, Jon Voight, Donald Sutherland, and Stephen Moyer, with a total of 52 credited performers.

Audience reception was generally positive, with a 7.2 rating on IMDb based on 5,400 votes and a 6.5 rating on TMDB from 94 votes. These viewer scores are higher than the 6.4 rating provided by film critics, who based their score on 6 reviews.
