Some Girls

Michael, an American college student, travels to Quebec City over Christmas to stay with his girlfriend Gabriella and her family. Soon after he arrives, Gabriella ends the relationship, leaving him stranded in a household full of odd behavior. Her father, an academic, is in the habit of walking around the house without clothes; her grandmother mistakes Michael for her late husband; and Gabriella's two sisters make their romantic interest in him plain. Michael spends the holiday trying to make sense of the family he has fallen into.

The film is a comedy drama directed by Michael Hoffman, his first feature, released in 1988 and followed by Soapdish, Restoration, One Fine Day and other titles. Rupert Walters wrote the screenplay, and Rick Stevenson produced it for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Wildwood Enterprises. Patrick Dempsey plays Michael, Jennifer Connelly plays Gabriella, and Sheila Kelley plays Irenka. Lila Kedrova appears as Granny, with Florinda Bolkan and Andre Gregory as Gabriella's parents.
